Joseph Walter “Joe” Mintz, 86, of Fayetteville passed away Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
Joe was born February 12, 1935 in Fayetteville, NC to the late Alice Elizabeth Shaw and John Walter Mintz.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cathy Mintz, and his sister, Frances Mintz Hasty.
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, Joe loved his family and treasured the friendships he made throughout his life. He successfully served and retired from federal civil service, substance abuse counseling and residential contracting. Joe also provided decades of personal wisdom and support to those struggling with substance issues. He cared greatly for all who faced challenges in their lives.
He was a member of First Baptist Church and enjoyed the services and the good people he knew from his church home.
A gifted artist, Joe enjoyed painting, writing, and reading. He also enjoyed flying and had a pilot’s license to fly small private craft.
Memorial services will be held at First Baptist Church on Saturday, August 21 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Robert James, officiating.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen Barfield Mintz; sons, Jeffery and Craig Mintz; 3 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
