Joyce Ann Tew Smallwood, 93, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, in her home, surrounded by family and friends. The family finds comfort in the fact that she got to spend Christmas in God’s presence.
Born on December 5, 1931, a Cumberland County native, Joyce was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a faithful active member of Cedar Falls Baptist Church, investing and participating in a myriad of ministries in the church including the choir, VBS, youth ministry, children’s ministry and much more.
She retired after many years of service from Civil Service at Fort Bragg. Joyce was a proud Christian wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all who knew her.
The family will receive friends from 1 till 1:45 p.m. on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at Cedar Falls Baptist Church. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. at Cedar Falls Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park.
Joyce was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Stewart Smallwood; son, Terry Smallwood; daughter-in-law, Laurie Smallwood and son-in-law, Kim Nazarchyk.
She is survived by her daughters, Gail Nazarchyk, Deborah Hubbard and husband Steve; her 7 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; great great grandson; brother, Otho Tew, Jr; and a sister, Maxine Neidigh.
The family of Joyce would like to thank all who called, visited and prayed for us during her illness. A special thanks to her caregivers Amanda Reed and Barbara Jackson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Music Ministry at Cedar Falls Baptist Church.
