Judy (Brinkley) Knowles

Judy Brinkley Knowles, 81, of Fayetteville, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on Monday, February 16, 2026. “Judy Lee” was born in Winston Salem, NC in 1945 to the late Holland Lee and Ruby Smith Brinkley of Davidson County. She was an alumnus of Ledford High School and attended East Carolina College and Campbell University.

Judy was a devoted mother, beloved daughter and sister, and a loyal and steadfast friend to many. She always maintained a positive outlook on life, gave others the benefit of the doubt, and never had a cross word to say. It was a pleasure to be in her presence. Her lifelong friendships stand as a testament to the warm, loving person she was.

Known for her beauty inside and out, her hair always perfect, she was well dressed and ready to hit the dance floor or the card table. She cherished life and all the special moments and adventures shared with her family, friends, “Ocean Isle Beach family,” and beloved bridge clubs of over 40 years. She was an outstanding shag dancer, and will get to join her long-time ex shag partner, O.B., for another dance.

 Judy loved animals and made generous contributions to FAPS Sick and Injured Animals fund. She donated her time at the shelter, even as her health was declining. She remained hopeful and positive throughout her illness, never complained, and continued to bring joy to others and to this world.

She is survived by her daughter, Nicolee (Niki) Knowles of Wilmington, NC and sister, Gay Brinkley Miriello of Raleigh, NC.

A celebration of life will be held Monday, March 2, 2026 at 2pm at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home. The family will receive friends an hour prior at 1pm at the funeral home. Judy will be placed at Lafayette Memorial Park following services.
