Mrs. Julia Bolton, 81, of Gray’s Creek, NC, transitioned to her heavenly home Wednesday, November 16, 2022, in her residence surrounded by her family. Julia was born October 28, 1941, in Robeson County, NC to the late Odious Nance and Mildred Virginia Edwards Nance. She graduated from Gray’s Creek High School in 1960. She retired from Carolina Telephone and Telegraph Company after 28 years of service. She then worked for Eastern Turf, Horne’s Furniture and the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, Juvenile Division.
Julia expressed her love through baking and became affectionately known as the “Cake Lady” to many in the Gray’s Creek community. Julia loved her Lord, Jesus Christ and served Him through choir, WMU and children’s ministries, particularly Vacation Bible School. She selflessly gave to others, sometimes even out of her own need. She was always searching for someone to help. Julia truly had a servant’s heart. She was a current member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. Julia‘s hobbies included ornamental gardening, Word Search, listening to gospel music, canning vegetables out of her husband’s garden, cooking for church, family and friends, Bible study, and gathering with family. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. By far, being “Mema” to her six grandchildren was her greatest joy in life.
Julia was preceded in death by siblings; Doris Jean Atkinson, Sandra Ann Harris, and Wanda Gail Dudney.
Julia is survived by her adored husband of 62 years, Tom Bolton; children, Kimberly Holloman (Jimmy) and Chuck Bolton (Claudia); six grandchildren, Brandon Holloman (Kara), Leighanna Craig (Josh), Aaron Bolton, Andrew Bolton, Barrett Bolton, and Brett Bolton; four great-grandchildren; 22 nieces and nephews; and a host of family and friends.
A funeral service will be conducted on Sunday, November 20, 2022, at 3:00 PM in the Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Oak Ridge Cemetery, 1019 W. Broad St., Saint Pauls, NC 28384. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service, beginning at 2:00 PM.
In honor of Julia’s heart for charity to those in need, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Grays Creek Christian Center, 3028 School Rd., Hope Mills North Carolina.
