Kerry Brent Ramsey, 85, of Fayetteville passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2024, with his wife by his side.
Kerry was born in Onslow County on September 12, 1938, to the late Major Isaac Ramsey and Pearl Elizabeth Riggs Ramsey.
After marrying the love of his life, Kerry joined the Signal Corps of the U.S. Army at Ft. Gordon, GA where he served from 1960 till 1963. During the Cold War, he was deployed to France for the Berlin Wall Crisis and to the southern U.S. for the Cuban Missile Crisis.
After his military service, he worked as a manager for moving agencies in Jacksonville, Fayetteville and Greensboro. The second half of his career, he was an owner/operator and a long-distance trucker. More recently, he owned Ramsey Trucking, hauling construction products.
Kerry was an active member of Person Street Pentecostal Holiness Church which is now Baywood Pentecostal Holiness Church.
He was a loving husband, father, papa, and friend to all who knew him.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at 1 pm, at Baywood Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial will follow in the Hope Mills City Cemetery with military honors.
Kerry was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Donald Curtis Ramsey.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary Creech Ramsey; sons, Todd Ramsey and wife, Rebecca of Greenville, SC; LTC (Ret.) Stuart Ramsey (USAF) and wife, Swanee of Sumter, SC; daughter, Mary Celeste Ramsey of Raleigh; grandchildren, Sarah Ramsey-Smith and husband, Paul, Dr. Benjamin Ramsey, Amelia Roys and husband, Steven, Cassie Hewitt and husband, Cody, Bailey Aguillon and husband, Art, Jillian Soles and husband, River, and Samuel Ramsey; great grandchildren, Josiah Wayne Smith, Daniel Todd Smith, and Graham Stuart Roys.
