Lillian Odom (Spears) Darby

Lillian Odom Spears Darby, 97, of Fayetteville, passed away in her home on Monday, November 25, 2024.

Lillian was born April 4, 1927, in Fayetteville, to Alton Boyd Spears and Mollie Odom Spears.  Lillian graduated from Seventy-First High School and attended Beauty School. She opened Lillian’s Beauty Shop and operated it for 52 years, retiring at age 84.

Lillian loved to cook for her family and collected many, many recipes over the years. .  She was proud to be the oldest living member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church, having been in church there since she was 6 weeks old!

She was preceded in death by her husband, James O’Neal Darby; daughter, Donna Darby Guy; brothers, Boyd Spears, William Spears and Sonny Spears; sisters, Sarah Geddie and Mary Wittmer.

“Too Too” as she was lovingly called by her family, is survived by her daughter, Marsha Darby Murray; grandchildren, Philip Marsh Guy, II (Lisa), Darby O’Neal Guy, Melody Murray Nessell (Anthony), and Meredith Murray Williams (Stephen “Troy”); great grandchildren, Daniel Marsh Guy, Kennedy Marie Guy, Joshua Dane Nessell, and Sarah Katherine Nessell.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 pm on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.  Funeral services will follow at 2 pm in the Jernigan-Warren Chapel.  Burial will follow at Lafayette Memorial Park.
