Lillian Irene Dayton Pechmann, 105, of Fayetteville, NC, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on Wednesday, October 16, 2024. She leaves behind a legacy of spirituality and commitment to family as a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Lillian was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Edward Lafayette Pechmann and her son, John Edward Pechmann (Amy). She is survived by her daughters, Phyllis Maultsby (Drew) of Chapel Hill, Anne Mitchell (Bobby) of Greensboro, and Mary Underwood (Robert) of Fayetteville; son, Gregory Pechmann of Fayetteville; 5 grandchildren, Jack Pechmann, Galen Maultsby, Bevin Maultsby, Sarah Mitchell Haley, and Catherine Mitchell; and 2 great-grandchildren, Olivia Mitchell Bitto and Eliza Haley.
Lillian and Edward were part of the Greatest Generation and shared those qualities with their friends, family, and community. Born in Memphis, TN, Lillian was known for her musical talent. She started playing piano at age 6 and continued through age 105. She shared this gift in many forms from playing live piano for dance studios, church as an organist, and for parties and events. This gift influenced her five children to also share in her love for music. The love and dedication Lillian had for her family was immeasurable. Lillian often volunteered at her children’s schools and was an unwavering supporter of their educational and career aspirations at every step of the way; their success is a direct result of Lillian’s involvement. Beyond family, she was a valuable and caring member of her community. She frequently delivered food and household items from her own limited resources to those in need in Fayetteville. Neighbors often looked to Lillian for guidance and support. She was a devout Catholic and involvement in her church played an important role in her life.
Our fond memories of Lillian include her delicious home-cooked meals, her music, our beautiful handmade clothing, her words of encouragement, her sense of humor, and, of course, her unwavering love and kindness. She was loved by so many through all her 105 incredible years.
