Linda Sue Surman Rose, 85, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at First Health Hospice in Moore County.
Linda was born on April 21,1939, to Edward and Pauline (Ballentine) Surman in Helena, Arkansas, where she grew up with her three siblings in the small, close-knit community. After graduating from Helena’s Central High School in 1957, Linda left her hometown to further her education, obtaining a degree in elementary education from Ouachita Baptist University in 1961. Upon graduating, Linda married fellow Ouachita student Walter Rose at the West Helena Baptist Church. Together they embarked on a decades-long journey following his military career and raising a family. Starting in Germany with stops in Texas, Alabama, Virginia, Hawaii, Illinois and Kansas they finished their service with a final posting at Ft. Bragg, NC, where Linda was an elementary school teacher in the Ft. Bragg Schools and received the Distinguished Service Award. Upon Walter’s retirement from the Army, they made Fayetteville, NC, their home. There they also found a cherished church home and became involved members of Snyder Memorial Baptist Church. At Snyder, Linda served for many years as a Greeter when members and guests arrived, where she enjoyed seeing her friends and making new ones. Faith, friendship and family were important to Linda, and her life reflected her unwavering devotion to each. Linda enjoyed reading and traveling but most of all she embraced the simple pleasure of spending time with the people she loved.
Linda is predeceased by her parents and siblings. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Walter; 3 sons, Wally and wife, Leigh Anne, Jeff Rose and wife, Lori, Paul Rose and wife, Becky; 3 grandchildren, Kelly Rose Mariott and husband, Chase, Sarah Rose Mhoon and husband, Asher, and Samuel Rose.
A memorial service will be held Friday, September 27, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Snyder Memorial Baptist Church. The family will receive friends in the Gathering Hall after the service.
