Lowery Fipps Obituary

Lowery Lane “Johnny” Fipps, 83, of Eastover passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at his residence surrounded by his family.

Lowery was born on February 5, 1942, in Columbus County to the late Gleon and Lavonia Fipps.

He graduated from William Township High School before graduating from East Carolina College with a Bachelor of Science degree. He used his degree in education to teach math and science at Central High School as well as Armstrong Elementary School. He also taught drivers education.

Aside from teaching, Lowery owned a paint contracting company, LL Paint Contractors. He has painted for the last 50 years, and a lot of his painting jobs can be seen in the Fayetteville area.

Lowery had strong faith in the Lord. He was a dedicated member of Lebanon Baptist Church for the last 60 years. During his membership with the church, he sat on several committees and served as a deacon for the last 40 years. Going to church was a large part of not only his life but the life he shared with his wife, Sue.

When he wasn’t working or being involved in something at church, you could find Lowery behind a fishing pole. He enjoyed fishing with his family, and there are so many stories to be shared of their trips flounder gigging.

Lowery is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Sue Fipps; daughters, Susan Smith (Jerry Keith Smith Jr.) and Lynn Reece (Houston Curry Reece III); brothers, Kellum Grant Fipps (Shirley) and Anthony Fipps (Carolyn); sister, Carolyn Thompson; sister-in-law, Dolly Pearl Fipps; grandchildren, Christopher Kyle Gray (Kelly), Dillon Shawn Parker (Brittany), Suanna Caitlyn Smith, and Krista Elaine Smith; and great grandson, Bryson Wade Parker.

In addition to his parents, Lowery is preceded in death by his brother, Sheldrick Fipps and brother-in-law, Roger Thompson.

The family will receive friends at Lebanon Baptist Church, Monday February 24, 2025, from 10:00am to 11:20am with a funeral service to follow at 11:30am.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, you consider donating to Lebanon Baptist church in memory of Lowery.

Arrangements are entrusted to Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home, 545 Ramsey St. Fayetteville, NC 28301.
