Margaret Elneta Bass Heustess, 86, of Bladenboro passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, November 14, 2023.
Margaret was born on August 3, 1937, in Columbus County to the late Lonnie Bass and Glennie Mae McCall Bass.
She committed her life to being a farmer’s wife and raising her children. She was a wonderful homemaker and cook. Her joy was feeding and watching the hummingbirds from her back porch. Her happiest days were sitting in a boat with her husband catching fish. Throughout her life, Margaret used her cake decorating skills to make numerous birthday and wedding cakes for others. She was a devoted Christian and a long-time member of New Center Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Harris Heustess; son, Ronnie Heustess; granddaughter, Erica Parks; her sisters, Gladys Butler (Billy), Merle Ransom (Buddy); and brothers, Kenneth “Buck” Bass and Thomas Bass.
She is survived by her sons, Larry Heustess and wife Debbie, and Eddie Heustess; daughter, Margaret Storms and husband Craig; daughter-in-law, Sonya Heustess; sisters, Faye McLam and husband Howard, Catherine Lennon and husband Eddie; sister-in-law, Wanda Bass; grandchildren, Marietta Chewning and husband, Kevin, Lydia Hall and husband, Brian, Laikyn Heustess (Dustin Parker), Jeramie Heustess, Lonnie Heustess and wife, Samantha, Leighanna Todd, and husband, Ryan, Kayla Wright and husband, Alfie, Austin Storms and wife, Alyssa; great grandchildren, Anna, Samara, Thomas, Cooper, Carleigh, Nora, Lailah, Nash Ronnie, Morgan, Xander, Kennedy, Lennox, Joseph, Jensen, Eli, Finn, Jackson, Dawson, Katie, Braylee, Harrison, Anna Cate, and Levi.
The family will receive friends Saturday evening, November 18, 2023, from 5 to 7 p.m. at New Center Baptist Church in Bladenboro. A Celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, November 19, 2023, at 2 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow in the Western Prong Baptist Church Cemetery in Whiteville.
