Marion “Buddy” Ransom, 83 of Clarkton passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, October 16, 2019.
Buddy was born in Columbus County on October 6, 1936 to the late James Marion Ransom and Zelma Ransom. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served in the Korean War. He worked many years as an Insurance Sales Agent and his later years in home construction. He was a faithful member of New Center Baptist Church for 73 years, where he was Deacon Emeritus, Sunday School Teacher, and served on other committees at the Church. His joy was singing in the choir and sharing the love of God in song. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, where he served as a District Chaplain and chartered the Lake Waccamaw VFW. He was also a member of the Clarkton Lions Club.
Funeral Services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, October 20, 2019 at New Center Baptist Church, with the Rev. Kevin Kinlaw and Rev. Barry Helms, officiating. Burial will follow in Meadows Cemetery with military honors.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, October 19, 2019 at New Center Baptist Church.
Buddy was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years Merle Bass Ransom; twin sister, Wanda “Sister” Hardee; brothers, Rodney and William “Bill” Ransom.
He is survived by his son, James Eric Ransom and wife Lea Ann; daughter, Melissa Ransom Young and husband Ricky; sister, Joan Meutsch and husband Tom; grandchildren, Erica Parks and husband Austin, Brae Foulke and fiance’ Nolan Bailey, Brett Young, Cade Ransom and Taylor Young; one great grandson, Levi Hunter Parks; and numerous nieces and nephews.
