Mary Joyce (Griggs) Hammond

Mrs. Mary Joyce Hammond, 87, of Hilton Head, SC passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at Hilton Head Medical Center.

She was born to the late Carl and Mary Francis Griggs. She is predeceased by her husband, Thomas R. Hammond.

Joyce was an avid reader and passed that love down to her children and her grandchildren. She lived a life of compassion and love for those who hurt and expressed this through volunteer work throughout her life with such organizations as the American Red Cross, Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, and Fisher House Foundation. Joyce loved her family above all else and nurtured her daughters and grandchildren with a tenderness beyond measure. She was a role model of a strong woman for her daughters and always had a gentle spirit with her grandchildren who sought comfort with their “Grammy”. Joyce’s sweet nature and kindness to those in need will be missed by a family who adored her.

She is survived by her daughters Angela Hammond, Debra Robles (Victor), and Kim Blackwell (Mike); 10 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, January 5, 2025, at 2 P.M. at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 to 2 P.M. at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home. The burial will take place later at Arlington National Cemetery.
