Mary Ann Edwards McCoy, 90, of Fayetteville, NC, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 14, at the Elizabeth House.
Born in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, on October 18, 1934, Mary Ann was the daughter of the late Earl and Mary Edwards. Her early years took her from Greensburg to State College, PA, and eventually to East Lansing, Michigan, where she attended high school and college before transferring to UNC Chapel Hill in her junior year. Despite her Tar Heel education, she remained a devoted NC State Wolfpack fan, rarely missing a home or away football game.
After graduating, Mary Ann moved to Raleigh, where she met the love of her life, Bobby McCoy. The two were married on February 8, 1958, and shared 53 wonderful years together in Fayetteville, raising a family and serving the community.
Mary Ann dedicated her life to supporting those around her. She was actively involved in numerous organizations and clubs over the years and most recently enjoyed her time volunteering at the Cape Fear Botanical Garden.
An avid golfer and gardener, Mary Ann found happiness in the beauty of nature—whether walking the beach, tending to her garden, or spending time outside with loved ones.
She is survived by her six children: Robert O. McCoy III and wife Marilee, Mary McCoy, Agnes Ferguson and husband Wilbur, Anna Williams and husband Gary, Earle Edwards McCoy and wife Lorry, and Jenny McCoy; as well as nine grandchildren who brought her great pride and joy: Marie and Elizabeth McCoy, Sophie and Ann Williams, Aiden, Grace, Sean, and Lilly McCoy, and Will Rosser.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert O. McCoy, Jr., and her brothers, Robert and Jack Edwards.
A private family graveside service will be held at Cross Creek Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cape Fear Botanical Garden or the Cumberland Community Foundation.
