Mavis Naylor Wheeler, 90, of Fayetteville, NC, passed away Sunday, August 11, 2024, in her home with her loving family by her side.
She was born August 29, 1933, in Sampson County to James Kirby and Bertha Gallagher Naylor.
Mavis was an awesome cook who enjoyed feeding her family and friends. She was a loving caregiver when someone was in need. As long as she was able, she was an active church member of over 50 years that included Vacation Bible School, Sunday School Secretary, nursery services, and on various cooking teams at Trinity Baptist Church.
Mavis was retired after 20 years with Cumberland County Schools, as well as a homemaker for her family.
Mavis was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Pete Wheeler, and her daughter, Lisa W. Stewart.
Left to cherish her memory are daughters, Pamela W. Burris, Kathy W. Gautier and husband, David; son-in-law, Tommy Stewart; brother, Wayne Naylor and wife, Cherry; grandchildren, Danielle McMullen and husband, Scott, Brad Gautier, Jackson Stewart and wife, Megan; great granddaughter, Alexa McMullen; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends whom she loved dearly.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, from 9 to 10 am at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 10 am in the Jernigan-Warren Chapel. Burial will be at Lafayette Memorial Park following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials and donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association www.alz.org/ or to the charity of your choice.
