Michael Julian "Mac" Kinlaw, 70, of New Bern, formerly of Fayetteville, died peacefully in his home on February 3, 2025.
Mac was born in Charleston, SC in 1954 to G. Julian and M. Colvert Kinlaw. He graduated from Reid Ross High School before attending the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing in 1976.
An avid boy scout, Mac was awarded the prestigious Order of the Arrow. He was the youngest manager ever to serve at the Big Star grocery store and the top salesman at Exterior Metals for 17 years until the business was sold in 2001. He continued a successful career in sales until his retirement.
Mac was a fan of fast cars and fast times. He enjoyed boating, scuba diving, cruising in the islands, Friday night poker, and opening his home to all. Mac was a good friend and a great time.
Mac was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, S. Ray Britt. He is survived by his sister, Brenda Kinlaw Britt, his nieces, Wendy Koren Britt, Amy Lynn Britt (and Tripp Macolly), Kelly Leigh Britt, and his great nieces, May Britt Macolly and Eva Ray Macolly.
A formal memorial service will be held on February 11, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Peace Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville, NC. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service. An informal Celebration of Life will follow at Mac’s home in New Bern, NC on the afternoon of Saturday, February 15, 2025.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to Peace Presbyterian Church.
