It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Nancy Susan Blackman Smith, 90, of Linden, NC, who went home to be with the Lord on April 3, 2025, in Raleigh, NC, while in hospice care.
Born on April 19, 1934, in Raleigh, NC, Nancy was the daughter of the late Julius Charles Blackman and Susan Henrietta Graddy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, LTC (Chaplain) Lee Adam Smith; her brother, James Blackman; her sister, Peggy Barr; and her daughter, Linda Faye Rodriguez.
Nancy is survived by her sons, Timothy (Susie) Smith and Steven (Cindy) Smith; her brothers, Robert (Sharon) Blackman and Charles (Betty) Blackman; grandchildren, Stacy (Bobby) Plotts, Michael (Paige) Smith, Catherine (Kevin Wilson) Smith, and Robert Smith; great-grandchildren, Jordan (Jordon Parker) Jackson, Tessa Smith, and Ada Smith; and great-great-grandchild, Vance Parker.
Nancy married Lee at a young age, and together they built a family that included three children. As Lee pursued his calling in the ministry and later became an Army chaplain, Nancy embraced the role of devoted homemaker and caretaker of her family. She lovingly supported her husband as they moved from base to base, establishing a home wherever they went. She was known for her quiet, nurturing spirit and her desire to please and care for others.
Nancy found joy in music and loved playing piano for those around her. She was also a faithful member of Flat Branch Presbyterian Church, where she made significant contributions to the church community. She served as the secretary for the Presbyterian Women, as secretary of the Sarah Circle, and was a dedicated member of the choir. Nancy's service to her church also included roles as a Deacon and later as an Elder, where her leadership and faith touched many lives.
Nancy's love for her family, her unwavering faith, and her quiet, selfless nature will be remembered by all who knew her.
A funeral service to honor Nancy's life will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Flat Branch Presbyterian Church in Bunnlevel, NC. Burial will immediately follow the service at the church. Visitation for family and friends will be held at the church prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 PM.
