Robert "Bob" Albert Peele, 78, of Fayetteville passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at Grand Strand Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, SC.

Bob was born in Fayetteville on October 28, 1944. He was the second son of five boys by the late Sidney and Ossie Peele. 

Bob was a 1963 graduate of Fayetteville Senior High School, where he played a variety of sports, lettering in football and baseball. He attended Pembroke State University before entering the U.S. Army.

Bob spent from 1965 to 1972 in the service of the Army, serving three tours in Vietnam with the 101st Airborne, and as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne. He received numerous medals and awards, including the Silver Star, Soldiers Medal, two Bronze Stars with valor, and three Purple Hearts among many others, before leaving the Army with the rank of Captain.

After leaving the Army, Bob attended Methodist University where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Business and Economics. At Methodist, he was voted Senior Class President and Student Government President.

Bob was a local business man for thirty-four years. He started and operated eleven food establishments in Fayetteville and the surrounding counties, including the Fayetteville Regional Airport restaurant. He was instrumental in developing the food court at Cross Creek Mall, having five of the eateries.

Bob coached little league baseball teams at Honeycutt Park and played softball on church interleague teams. He loved boating and water skiing. He taught his kids and their friends to learn. He was an avid lover of golf, which took him to live at North Myrtle Beach. He continued operating businesses while living there, becoming the proprietor of Duck's Beach Club for several years.

Bob enjoyed beach music and was a member' of the Fayetteville Area Shag Association Hall of Fame. He was a member of the Shriner's Club, Masonic Temple, and the Exchange Club of Greater Fayetteville.

Bob loved to travel with Barbara. They traveled to many states and went on many cruises all over the world. He enjoyed making new experiences and being surrounded by his family.

Bob will be remembered by all that knew and loved him for his sense of humor, huge personality, and bright smile, having a way to make anyone feel at ease around him. He tried to encourage and help others in any way he could. Bob inspired and made an impression on all who ever met him.

He was preceded in death by his eldest brother, Sidney "Buster" Peele. 

Bob is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara Tew Peele. He was the father to son, Greg Peele and daughter, Nicole Peele. He is survived by his brothers , Ronnie Peele, John Peele and Jerry Peele, and was an uncle to many nephews and nieces.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 18th 2023,  at twelve o'clock in the chapel at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home. Immediately after the service, a celebration of life will be held at Highland Country Club.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Program or to a Vietnam Veteran organization.
