Sally Jane Laymon Biggs, 75, of Autryville, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, May 19, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on March 31, 1950, in Grand Traverse County, Michigan, Sally dedicated her life to caring for others. A proud graduate of Southwestern Michigan College with a degree in nursing, she was a pioneer in neonatal care—working as a nursery nurse long before the field became widely recognized. Throughout her distinguished career, Sally served in several OB/GYN offices including McDaniel & Hardison and Dr. Harmon, as well as A Woman’s Place and Cape Fear Valley Medical Center Labor and Delivery, where she was known by many as “Sono-Sally”. In her later years, she shared her warmth and skill with clients at the Med Spa on Cliffdale Road.
Sally had a zest for life and an incredible array of talents. She enjoyed crocheting, scrapbooking, sewing, quilting, baking, and painting. From 1977 to 1979, while stationed in Italy with her husband, she found joy working with a veterinarian, caring for animals, and calling Bingo games.
Above all, Sally cherished her family. She is survived by her devoted husband of 54 years, Gordon Biggs; daughter, Michele Bailey; son, James “Chris” Biggs; her beloved mother, Bernice Laymon of Niles, Michigan; and sister, Sue McCormick (Richard) of Niles, Michigan. Sally was a proud and loving grandmother to Matthew Malone, Gabriel Bailey, Sabrina Bailey, Cierra Biggs, and Trystyn Biggs. She also leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ralph Laymon, and her brother, Jerry Laymon both of Dowagiac, Michigan.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 23, 2025, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home, with a Celebration of Life service to follow at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel. A private burial will be held at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery. A livestream of the chapel service will be available at www.facebook.com/Jerniganwarren.com beginning at 11:00 am on Friday.
Sally’s legacy of compassion, creativity, and kindness will continue to live on through all who knew and loved her.
