Sarah Helen Brown (née Speigner) of Fayetteville NC, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior after a brief illness, January 7th 2021 at Cape Fear Regional Medical Center.
Sarah Helen Speigner was born September 17th, 1945, in Enterprise, Alabama to the late John Henry and Mildred Speigner. She grew up one of thirteen children in Enterprise and was working at the sweet shop there when she met her sweetheart, Warrant Officer Russell Dale Brown, an Army helicopter pilot stationed at Fort Rucker. They married January 18th, 1963 in Enterprise. She followed her husband to Munich, Germany where Russell was stationed at Schleissheim Airfield. Their first two children, April and Michael were born in Germany. Returning to the US, Sarah and Russell were blessed with two more children, Shannon and Brandon, as they moved between Enterprise, Alabama, York, Pennsylvania and eventually Fayetteville, North Carolina. Sarah always kept a sweet and loving home where she doted on her husband, her children, and her grandchildren and great-grandson.
Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by two brothers, Danny Mike Speigner and Jacob Lafayette “Jake” Speigner and a grand-daughter, Evangeline Brown. She is survived by her husband of nearly fifty-eight years Russell Brown, her children and their spouses Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan Yerby (April) of Fayetteville, NC, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Brown (Melinda) of Plano, Texas, Shannon Brown of Jacksonville, Florida, and Brandon Brown of Fayetteville, NC. She has six grandchildren, Tanner Yerby (Madison), Kendall Yerby, Hannah Yerby, John Yerby, and Amelia and Evangeline Brown. She has one great-grandson, Bryce Yerby.
Mrs. Brown is also survived by her brothers, sisters, and in-laws Mr. and Mrs. James Speigner (Joyce), Enterprise, AL; Mrs. Judy Hataway, Enterprise, AL; Mrs. Donita Martin, Jacksonville, FL; Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Speigner (Donna), Copperas Cove, TX; Mrs. Brenda Jackson, Enterprise, AL; Mrs. Cindy Chapel, Henderson, TN; and Mr. and Mrs. Michael Miller (Lethia). She had many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, all of whom miss her dearly.
Mrs. Brown was a devout Christian all her life and a member of Manna Church in Fayetteville. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, January 14th at the Manna Church Cliffdale Site Chapel (2nd Floor Education Wing) at 2PM in Fayetteville, NC. Mrs. Brown will be interred at the Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery.
