Shirley Mae Barefoot of Fayetteville, NC went peacefully to her heavenly home on March 6, 2026, and is now with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Born on December 25, 1937, in Benson, NC, she was employed by Carolina Telephone until she retired to enjoyed life with her family and friends. All were blessed by her incredible sweet and loving personality as she made everyone feel cared for and special. Cooking (known for her chicken and pastry) for her family, spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and doing yardwork (especially burning limbs, twigs, etc.) in her yard were some of the things she enjoyed most. She was a longtime member of Northwood Temple Church and loved reading her Bible, praying, and sharing her love for Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Shelton C. Barefoot, and grandson Aaron Nowiski. Survivors include: daughter, Terry Nowiski (husband Charles), son, Rev. Roger Barefoot (wife Anita),six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 14, 2026, from 11 to 12 pm at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 12:00 PM in the Jernigan-Warren Chapel with Rev. Roger Barefoot, Rev. John Hedgepeth, and Rev. Eddie Wood officiating. Burial will follow at Lafayette Memorial Park at 1 pm.
