Stuart Knoff Obituary

Stuart Thomas Knoff, known to his friends as "Tom", passed away February 25, 2021 in New York City.  He was born Apri1 13, 1963 at West Point, NY where his father was stationed at the time.  His parents were Betty Boyd Newberry Knoff and the late Colonel Edward M. Knoff, Jr.

He was a proud "Army Brat" and often spoke about the many places he had lived.  He was a graduate of Terry Sanford High School and East Carolina University with a BS degree in Finance.  He received his MBA degree from the University of Georgia. He also earned the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.

Tom's career in finance began with Wachovia Bank.  In 1994, he relocated to New York to be employed by First Chicago Bank.  Later he worked for
New York life, where he filled multiple roles, including the firm's private equity division.  He also was employed by Merrill Lynch Wealth Management.

Always willing to help a friend, Tom especially enjoyed playing his guitar, watching Georgia football, and North Carolina barbeque. He was a devoted father to his two sons, Thomas and William.  Some of his happiest times were spent coaching their soccer and baseball teams.  He also taught the boys to play chess.  They eventually competed in many chess tournaments, always accompanied by their dad.

He is survived by his sons, Stuart Thomas Knoff, Jr, and William James Knoff, both of Brooklyn, NY; his mother, Betty N. Knoff; brother, Edward M. Knoff, III and wife, Lisa, of Cordova, TN; his aunt, Mary Rogers Newberry Hill and husband, Bill, of Williamsburg, VA; three cousins; and his former wife, Irena Z. Knoff, also of Brooklyn.

Tom's life will be honored at a memorial graveside service at Lafayette Memorial Park, 2301 Ramsey Street ,Fayetteville, NC 28301 on Thursday, March 25, 2021 at 10:30 am with the Reverend David J. Blackman, officiating.  Covid 19 protocols will be observed.
