Thomas Hyde III Obituary

Thomas Alexander Hyde, III, 86, of Fayetteville, North Carolina passed away March 31, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Lex was born on December 13, 1938, to the late Ann and Thomas Hyde Jr, in Essex County, New Jersey.

He served his country with pride and after 28 years, retired from the United States Army as a Lieutenant Colonel. During the time he was active duty, Thomas served in Vietnam during the Vietnam war and later joined the Army Reserves before retirement.

Following his retirement, he enjoyed seeing what the world had to offer. Lex enjoyed spending his time from the mountains in Tennessee to the coast of South Carolina in Myrtle Beach. Lex was also a football super fan, and you could always catch him watching the Jacksonville Jaguars on game day. When his son, Tom, lived in Jacksonville, Lex attended many games and collected Jaguar’s memorabilia. He even went out and purchased a Jaguar car the same color as the Jacksonville Jaguars team colors.

Aside from sports, Lex liked to play cards and have his nose in a book. He was a competitive Bridge player and attended many tournaments.

Thomas is survived by his wife, Sheila; Son, Tom Hyde IV (Heather); Daughter, Alexa Pait (Kevin); Step-Son, Brian Raynor (Tashia); Sister, Pam Wilson; Grandchildren, Jillian, Kirsten, Kylie, Thomas Hyde V, Tucker, Sheila; Great-Grandchildren, Nathan, Benjamin, Hadley, Adrina and Jocelyn.
