Tommy Baker Obituary

Tommy Lee Baker, 72, Fayetteville, died Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at his home with his family and friends by his side as he desired.

Mr. Baker was born in Fayetteville, North Carolina to the late Mrs. Ruth Benton Baker and Mr. John Raymond Baker.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 8, 2021 from 4pm to 6pm at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home. The funeral will be conducted at 2 pm Monday at Massey Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Randy White and Pastor Tim Evans, officiating. Burial will follow at 3 pm at Lafayette Memorial Park on Ramsey Street.

Mr. Baker is survived by his wife, Mrs. Carolyn Baker; son, Troy Baker; stepsons, Lee Zeigler and Brian Dallas; granddaughters, Tory Ava Baker and Mollie Ann Drake; one brother, Eugene Baker; one sister, Sandra Napier; many nieces and nephews; extended family members; and pets, J.D. (Just Dog) and Loulou.

Mr. Baker was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Raymond, sisters, Frances Baker Tew, Sylvia Baker Bain and Barbara Baker Matthews, brothers, Johnny Baker and Ronald Baker and stepson,Matt Zeigler.

Mr. Baker was a lifelong resident of Fayetteville growing up in the Cedar Falls area of Cumberland County. He graduated from Pine Forest High School in 1966, served in the United States Navy from 1969 to 1973, and was employed by the United States Civil Service at Simmons Army Airfield at Fort Bragg, the North Carolina Department of Transportation, Cumberland County Maintenance Unit, as well as numerous other local businesses and industries.

Mr. Baker was an avid fan of NASCAR, bluegrass, country and gospel music among other interests. His life was dedicated to our LORD, Jesus Christ, his family, friends, and more importantly, his granddaughters, Tory Ava and Mollie Ann.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the church family of Massey Hill and Eureka Baptist Churches, Pastor Dr. Randy White, Pruitt Health Hospice of Fayetteville, Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home and all of our extended family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Dementia Society of America.
