Tsuruko “Sue" Nakazato Weiss, 86, of Fayetteville, passed away on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at Village Green Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Tsuruko was born on November 10, 1936, in Nakijin Nakasone, Okinawa to the late Tokujiro Nakazato and Kana Oshiro. Her father passed away when she was 6 years old and was raised by a single mother who was a sugar farmer and raised hogs. Tsuruko was the 3rd youngest of 9 children.
She married Howard Weiss in 1958, becoming an Air Force wife. In 1966, she became a US citizen. Sue and her family moved to Fayetteville in the early 1970s and she continued her career as a licensed Japanese dollmaker and a licensed beautician. She later worked as a seamstress and focused her efforts on selling her crafts, having received a Southeastern Arts & Crafts Master’s degree.
Sue is survived by her daughter, Sandy Weiss, of Spokane Valley, WA; son, Steve Weiss of Supply, NC; and grandson, Joshua Weiss.
A Memorial service will be held on Monday, November 13, 2023, in the Snyder Memorial Baptist Church Chapel at 11 am. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Snyder Memorial Baptist Church.
