Ursie Mae Suggs Smith, 86 of Vander, passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at her home.
Ursie was a loving, dedicated wife and mother who exhibited a kind and humble spirit in all aspects of her life. As a person who trusted and loved the Lord Jesus Christ, she was a lifelong member of Judson Baptist Church where she served in the Sunday School office for over 40 years. In addition to serving the Lord, she faithfully supported her husband and sons through many athletic endeavors. This included 24 years of being the first smiling face to greet parents and fans at the ticket booth for Stedman Post 62 American Legion Baseball games. Ursie worked at the Cumberland County Courthouse for 34 years as a Deputy Clerk of the North Carolina Superior Court. Ursie was a breast cancer survivor for over 33 years.
Ursie was preceded in death by husband, Henry Carter Smith, son, Henry Keith Smith, daughter-in-law, Betty Jo Smith, and four brothers, Jake, Maurice, Leonard, and Byron Suggs.
She is survived by three sons, Duane Ashford Smith, Wendell Smith and wife Julie, and Scott Smith and wife Melissa, all of Vander; five grandchildren, Justin Smith and wife Maygan, Erika Brooke Smith, Drew Smith, Aaron Smith and Spencer Carter Smith; two great-grandchildren, Landen Kersey and Maggie Jo Smith
A Graveside service will be held on Monday, January 4, 2020 at 1pm at Lafayette Memorial Park. The service will be live streamed on the Jernigan-Warren Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/JerniganWarren/
