Vanna Lee (Smith) Compton

Vanna Lee Compton, 79, of Fayetteville, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 12, 2025, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on August 12, 1946, in Ft. Benning, Georgia, Vanna was the daughter of the late Vannas and Cora Smith.

For the past 55 years, Vanna was the devoted wife and partner of her husband, Roger. Together, they shared not only a deep bond in life but also in work. For over three decades, Vanna worked alongside Roger at his family law practice, serving as both office manager and paralegal. She was the steady hand behind the scenes—ensuring the practice ran smoothly and, as Roger would often say, “keeping him straight and in line.”

Beyond her professional role, Vanna was a woman of many passions. A lifelong lover of literature, she was rarely seen without a book in hand and found joy in recommending new titles to friends and family. She also loved to cook and was always eager to try new recipes and share them with her loved ones.

Vanna will be remembered most for her generous spirit and compassionate nature. Known affectionately as “everyone’s mom,” she never hesitated to lend a helping hand, offer guidance, or simply be there for others in times of need.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Roger; her son, Christian Compton; daughter in-law and friends, Misty Compton; grandchildren, Bradley and Kaitlyn; and great-grandchildren, Jasper, Ember, and Rhaelynne.

In additional to her parents she was preceded in death by her cherished canine companion, Duncan.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a cause that held a special place in Vanna’s heart.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, September 25, 2025 at 2pm at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.
