Virginia Gertrude (Church) Perkins

Mrs. Virginia Gertrude Church Perkins, 86, of Fayetteville, NC, died Saturday, May 11, 2024, at the Heritage Place Senior Living Center.

Virginia was born February 8, 1938, to the late Johnny S. Church and Naomi Gertrude Stowe.  She retired from JC Penney.  Virginia was a wonderful wife, mother and meme who was always there when we needed her.  She was full of life and loved spending time with friends and family.  Although she was small in stature, she could be a mighty warrior when she encountered injustice. Virginia had many life-long friends and was well-loved in her community of faith where she served God faithfully. 

Virginia was preceded in death by brothers, Clarence Church and Jackie Church and sisters, Betty Lang and Wanda Maddox.  

Virginia is survived by her husband of 68 years, Clayton Denzil. Perkins; daughter, Debbie P. O’Brien (Jack); sons, Robert Perkins (Debra) and Richard Perkins (Joy); three brothers, Jimmy Church, Jerry Church, and Johnny Church; six grandchildren, Jennifer, Jarad, Cassie, Christen, Joshua, and Jonathon; two step grandchildren, Jennifer and Justin; and seven great-granddaughters, Jordan, Juliana, Makayla, Jentry, Leighton, Sydney, and Maddie. 

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.   A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at St. Andrews United Methodist Church.  Interment will follow at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery, Fort Liberty, NC. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrews United Methodist Church, 121 Lofton Dr., Fayetteville, NC 28311.
