Virginia Lilly Yarborough, 86, died peacefully at home Sunday.
She was the daughter of the late Richard M. Lilly, former president of the Fayetteville Publishing Company and Ashton W. Lilly, the company’s former chairman of the board.
Mrs. Yarborough served on the Board of Directors of Fayetteville Publishing Company, volunteered, and supported many organizations and projects that enhanced the quality of life for others in Fayetteville.
She was a founding member and the first treasurer of the Junior Service League of Fayetteville and a member of the Colonial Dames of America.
She was a graduate of Fayetteville High School, St. Mary’s College, and the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill.
Mrs. Yarborough was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Rankin, sister, Charlotte Broadwell, and brother, Richard Lilly, Jr.
She is survived by her husband, Ramon L. Yarborough, Sr.; her children Sam C. Rankin, Virginia Y. Colantuono (Tom), Ramon Yarborough, Jr. (Laura); her four grandchildren; Thomas, Emily, Hannah, and Ramon, III; her sister Ashton Fox (Richard); and seven nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Cumberland Community Foundation, the Vision Resource Center, Cape Fear Valley Hospice, or a charity of your choice.
A service will be held Thursday, December 9, 2021.
