Waltraud "Trudy" Liselotte Fleming, 84, of Fayetteville, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 22, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Trudy was born on December 1, 1941, in Germany to the late Rudolf Derleder and Annalisa Schmidt. She grew up with the childhood name Zimmermanles Waltraud, which means “Shriner” or “the finest cabinet maker.” She worked as an accountant with Stamm, a retail store in Germany.
In 1962, she met the love of her life when her beautiful blue eyes caught his attention. They were married for 63 years. As a devoted military wife, Trudy traveled the world while lovingly caring for her husband and family. She often said, “Who would ever think this little blue-eyed, redheaded girl from Madenhausen, Germany would go so many places and do so many things.”
Trudy was an exceptional gardener and a loving wife, mama, Oma, sister, aunt, and friend. Her warmth, strength, and devotion to family will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, January 23, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery Chapel.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her half-brother, Rheinhold Derleder.
She is survived by her loving husband, James V. Fleming; sons, James J. Fleming and Eric G. Fleming and his wife, Yufang; grandchildren, James T. Fleming and wife April, Lillian E. Fleming, and Aleah Reznly; and sisters, Ingrid Stuehler and Sybille Harth and her husband, Arnold.
