William Burdette Asher, Jr., 76, of Fayetteville, passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his family.
He was born on August 28, 1947 in Annapolis County, Maryland to the late William Burdette Asher, Sr. and Anna Marie Langley Asher.
William was retired after 21 years with the U.S. Army, where he received the Army Commendation Medal for his service to the 31st Engineers in Vietnam from November 1969 to October 1970.
For the past 30 years, William gave his time and loved every minute volunteering with BINGO. He enjoyed fishing, whether it was in his boat or on the lake, as long as he was wetting a hook. He and his wife Jackie loved to ride whether it was to Lumberton for lunch or just around the block. He always enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grands and great grands. Grandpa had a one-of-a-kind sense of humor. He also enjoyed making videos with his grand girls, Makayla (aka) Mickey and Mya. He spent his days watching Maury and Jerry and his nights watching wrestling.
The family will receive friends from 11-12 p.m. on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home followed by a service at 12 noon in the Chapel. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery with Full Military Honors. The repass will be held at 1938 Roxie Ave. Fayetteville, N.C. 28304
In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his son, James Asher and great grandson, Chase Asher.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Natsue “Jackie” Asher; son, Kelly Asher (Elke Watson); daughters, Amy Wright (Gemini), Freda Meadows (Matthew); sisters, Sondra Gillikin, Suzanne McCauley, Gayle Asher, Toni Gilchrist (Gary); brother, Terry Asher (Debbie); grandchildren, Kalyyle Asher, Camden Asher, Jordan Graham, MaKayla Ray, Mya Ray; great grandchildren, Kasai Morris, Kaisen Asher, Zayden Asher, Winter Burns, Jh’avea Graham, Jhor’lani Graham, Zaia Green; God-daughters, Elizabeth McNeill and Victoria Counts
