William Godfrey Obituary

William  "Bill" W. Godfrey, of Fayetteville, NC, went home to be with the Lord on April 19, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was 84.

Born on May 31, 1940, in Columbia, North Carolina, William was the son of the late Felbert Godfrey and Mary Rhodes Godfrey. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he will be remembered for his strong faith, gentle spirit, and unwavering love for his family.

William began his career with the Carolina Telephone Company in Tarboro, NC, and later worked in the Central Office in downtown Fayetteville. The company would eventually become Sprint Telephone, where he remained until his retirement. He was a dedicated and respected employee throughout his years of service.

A faithful member of The Village Baptist Church, William found joy and peace in worship and fellowship. As long as his health allowed, attending church was a cornerstone of his life. He also shared a passion for classic cars with his beloved wife Susan, and together they were active members of the Corvette Club at M & O Chevrolet.

In his youth, William was an avid athlete who loved playing baseball and swimming. During his college years, he played tennis, a sport he enjoyed and spoke of fondly.

William joined the United States Air Force and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He later served with the National Guard. He loved and served his country with dignity and pride. He attended the University of Arkansas and was a proud Razor Back.

William is survived by his wife of 57 years, Susan Godfrey; their son, Thomas Godfrey; grandchildren, Christopher Godfrey and wife Tina, and Victoria Godfrey Christiansen and husband Alec Christiansen; and two cherished great-granddaughters, Noortje and Zoey Godfrey.

A private Celebration of Life service will be held to honor William's memory.
